Everything you own, drawn at its actual size

One picture of your entire fleet at true scale, ship import from the tools you already use, 460 liveries that turned out to have no camouflage on them, and the news that the Caterpillar is not in fact 13 meters long.

Six columns of interface, one for each manufacturer theme: Aegis in green-black, Anvil in carbon and hazard amber, Argo in amber panels on machine grey, Drake in rust on oily iron, MISC in brushed aluminum and navy, and RSI in graphite with Polaris blue.

The headline feature of 2.0.4 is a picture. The interesting part is what I had to find out in order to draw it.

One picture of everything you own

Share fleet draws your entire hangar as a single image, in your theme, at 1080p or 4K.

True scale lines every ship up at the same meters per pixel, largest first, which is a humbling way to meet your Aurora. Deck plan lays them out as tidy tiles by category. Signed in, the picture links to a page of your fleet with a Compare with mine button, which draws a visitor's fleet beside yours at the same scale, for those who enjoy that sort of thing. Orgs can share the whole roster.

An Odin and an ATLS cannot share one scale without the ATLS becoming a rounding error, so small craft get their own enlarged inset. The ATLS are once again the smallest thing in the picture, as nature intended.

So I went and measured the ships

True scale is only true if you know how long things are, and it turns out we did not.

The Caterpillar was 13 meters long. The Moth, the Javelin and the ATLS were zero meters long, which raises questions about how any of us have been flying them. 55 ships now take their length from the ship itself, so fleet pictures and the stats panel finally agree with your eyes.

Your hangar, without typing it in

Import ships brings your RSI hangar across from a HangarXPLOR download, a hangar.link CSV or a saved StarJump canvas. Only the ships come: paints, gear and what you paid stay behind. You see every ship before anything is saved, and LTI and insurance show in My hangar where only you can see them.

Concept ships come too, and quietly turn into real ships the moment they reach the game. Import again next year and it adds what is new and offers to remove what you melted.

If you own a Galaxy in spirit and have never exported anything in your life, Add a ship now lists every concept ship as well. Twenty-seven of them are drawn in proper 3D from RSI's own store models, instead of a painting in a dashed frame.

Paint that was there the whole time

Every ship and livery has been drawn a fourth time, under a softer light and with dark canopy glass instead of mirrors.

The useful part: about 460 camo, racing stripe and event liveries turn out to have been rendering as a flat coat of their base color, which is the exact opposite of camouflage. The Perseus Thundercloud is a storm again, the Nox tiger stripes have stripes, and the Nox itself has stopped wearing a Vanduul Scythe's thrusters as a bulky overcoat. The 300 series has its twelve paints each, drawn for the first time, and the Railen and Tyilui are posed landed with their gear down.

Six themes, while I was at it

Hangarworks now comes in Aegis, Anvil, Argo, Drake, MISC and RSI, each mixed from the base paint of that maker's actual ships rather than from a designer's idea of what that maker feels like. Green-black with Javelin white, carbon with hazard amber, amber hull panels on machine grey, rust on oily iron that nobody has ever cleaned, brushed aluminum with Prospector navy, and gunmetal with Polaris blue.

They are a patron thing. Any pledge at Captain or above lends you all six, and they stay yours for good once you have chipped in $9 all told.

Smaller, but you will notice

  • Category colors. Eight of them, shown as a dot by the name and painted into your fleet pictures, so Mining can finally be the color of a Prospector's ambition.
  • Item stats on the website. Ship weapons and components list their DPS, shield, power, quantum and mining numbers, as the apps already did. The fire extinguisher lists its range, which is better to know before than during.
  • 69 item looks with thin-film paint are redrawn so the color slides across them the way it does in the game. The Deadhead helmets have their mohawks, and the superheavy suits have located their arms and legs.
  • Mining modules each have their own power now. They had been sharing one number, last one to speak winning, so extraction-only modules appeared to buff your mining laser, a thing they have never once done.
  • Hangar by the thumb. On phones the Build, My hangar and Org roster switch sits just above the tab bar, where your thumb was already going. On iPhone you can swipe in from either edge to change pane.
  • Safari no longer sits on a spinner forever when its storage gets stuck, a thing Safari does to keep you humble.

Where to get it

Everything above is on the website right now, signed in or not.

iOS 2.0.4 is out on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. Android is still in closed testing, because Google wants twelve opted-in testers before it will allow a production release and there are eight. Four more and it ships. The sign-up is on the site, under the App Store button, and it is not a big commitment: install it, leave it installed, tell me when something breaks.
